Subchapter I:
State Legal Holidays
§803. Yap State Constitution Day.

This subchapter shall be known and may be
cited as the "Yap State Legal Holidays Act".

(a) March first of each year is hereby designated as Yap Day and a legal holiday in recognition of the traditions of the people of the State. However, activities which are organized for the celebration of Yap Day may be held on a different day, or days, at one or more locations in the State.
(b) There shall be a Committee on Yap Day composed of five members as follows:
(1) Two members of the Council of Pilung each for a term of four years;
(2) A representative of the Yap Women's Association for a term of three years; and
(3) Two members appointed by the Governor, each to serve on the committee during the term of the Governor who appointed them.
(c) Members shall hold membership on the Committee during their terms as specified in subsection (b) of this section, subject to reappointment and until their successors have been appointed.
(d) Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, members of the Committee shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority or the entity which they represent.
(e) The Committee shall promote and encourage activities which recognize and represent the traditions of the people of the State, supervise activities conducted on and in behalf of Yap Day, and shall provide awards for superlative performance in activities and accomplishments recognizing and representing the traditions of the people of the State, and for production in the areas of agriculture, marine resources and handicrafts.
(f) The Committee is authorized to raise and receive funds from any source necessary to carry out its responsibilities. Unless otherwise provided by law, all such funds received by the Committee shall not revert to the General Fund.

§803. Yap State Constitution Day.
December twenty-fourth of each year is
hereby designated as a legal holiday in order to commemorate the effective date
of the Yap State Constitution.

hereby designated as a legal holiday as Christmas Day.

January first of each year shall be a legal
holiday in order to celebrate the first day of each year.

§806. National Holidays to be recognized.

A Special Task Force is hereby created to
study and submit its findings and recommendations to the Legislature on other
important days the State should recognize as legal holidays. The
Special Task Force shall have five members. One member shall be
appointed by the Chairman of the Council of Pilung, another by the Chairman of
the Council of Tamol, one by the Speaker, and two by the Governor. One of
the appointees by the Governor shall not be a government employee. The
appointments shall be made within ten days from the effective date of this
subchapter. The Special Task Force shall appoint its chairman and shall
submit its findings and recommendations to the Legislature during the January,
1987, legislative session.

Subchapter II: Observances

June 1 shall be set aside as Tree Planting
Day whereby the residents of the State shall be encouraged to plant trees
thereby providing food, shelter and other necessities for the residents of the
State. This said date, when it falls on a Saturday, shall be observed on
Friday, and shall be observed on Monday should it fall on a
Sunday.

The last week in April is established in
the State as Youth Week during which recreational and athletic programs,
contests, games, and activities of interest to the young people should be
emphasized.
