The system of plane coordinates hereinafter established for defining and stating the positions or locations of points on the surface of the earth within the Truk Chuuk and Neoch Lagoons shall be known and designated as the "Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System."

The plane coordinates of a point on the surface of the earth used in designating the position on such point in this system shall consist of two distances expressed in meters and decimals of a meter. One of those distances, to be known as the "X-coordinate," shall be in the east-west direction, and positions north and south shall be taken from it. The other, to be known as the "Y-coordinate," shall be in the north-south direction and positions east and west shall be taken from it. These coordinates shall be made to depend on and conform to the coordinates of the Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System as established by
triangulation and/or traversing done by the United States Geological
Survey Team work of 1969-1970, established by a "Memorandum of
Understanding" between the Acting Director of the U.S. Geological Survey
and the High Commissioner of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands,
Department of the Interior (1968).

The Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System is hereby defined as a Modified Aximuthal Equidistant Projection on Clark's Ellipsoid of 1866 with the Central Meridian passing through Truk Chuuk Sector RM#1, which station shall serve as
the point of origin for the assignment system of rectangular
coordinates.

No survey of lands or maps or documents hereinafter made shall have endorsed thereon any legend or other statement indicating that it is based on the Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System unless the coordinates have been established on that system as herein defined. All new work involving points established by the Truk Chuuk District State Coordinate System approved April 25, 1960 will have the point coordinates changed to the Truk Chuuk-Neoch System as the occasion
arises.

Nothing contained in this Legislation Chapter shall be interpreted as requiring any purchaser or mortgagor to rely on a description based wholly upon the Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System.

Any person who willfully alters, defaces or removes any marker erected for the purpose of designating any triangulation or traverse station of the Truk Chuuk-Neoch Coordinate System or Truk District Chuuk State Coordinate System shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be imprisoned for a period of not more than one year or fined not more than $100.00 or both, as provided by Section 53 of Title 57 of the Trust Territory Code.
